John H. Lister, Colonel, USMCR, Dep Dir, WGing Div, MC Warfighting Lab

Colonel John Harrison Lister was born in Nutter Fort, West Virginia.  He attended Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.  In August 1991, (then) Lieutenant Lister Battalion deployed as part of Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. 


In November 2004, (then) Lieutenant Colonel Lister became the Wargaming Operational Support Officer with the Wargaming Division, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL) at Quantico, Virginia.  In 2005, he was assigned as the Deputy Director, Wargaming Division.


Lieutenant Colonel Lister volunteered for deployment to Iraq in January 2009.  He was assigned as the MCWL liaison officer for II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) (Forward) in Al Assad, later becoming the Science and Technology officer for II MEF.  As the S&T officer, he was responsible for Multinational Force-West’s urgent needs process and procedures and developed a plan for redeployment of in theater specialized equipment items as part of the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq.


In August 2010, Colonel Lister took command of the Technology Division, MCWL.  From there he volunteered for deployment as the MCWL LNO to I MEF and II MEF (FWD) at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan.  Colonel Lister returned to the United States in June 2011 and is the Deputy Director, Wargaming Division, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory at Quantico, Virginia.
